What To Expect from Your First Therapy Session with Me
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. Not knowing what to expect may make you feel reluctant to take that step. You might be
If you’re feeling anxious, emotionally drained or struggling to cope with life’s demands, counselling can provide a space to slow down, understand what’s happening and develop healthier ways of managing the pressures you’re facing.
Low self-esteem can affect every area of life, from relationships to work to decision-making. Together, we can explore where these feelings come from, challenge self-critical beliefs and help you build a stronger, kinder relationship with yourself.
Putting everyone else’s needs before your own can leave you feeling drained and disconnected from yourself. Together we can explore the patterns behind people pleasing, helping you set healthier boundaries and feel more confident prioritising your own needs.
Talking about your thoughts and feelings doesn’t always come easily, and that’s okay. Counselling is your space and I’ll never expect you to share more than you’re comfortable with. We can work at your pace, building trust and creating a space where opening up feels safer.
When life feels overwhelming it’s easy to lose sight of your own needs. Whether you’re managing work, school, family or other challenges, counselling can help you make sense of your experiences, find balance and feel more able to cope day-to-day.
My core approach is person-centred, which means our work is led by you; your pace, your needs and what feels most important to talk about from session to session.
Alongside this, I work pluralistically. This means we can shape therapy together in a way that suits you. Some people want a reflective space to explore feelings, while others find it helpful to bring in practical tools, coping strategies, or different therapeutic perspectives.
We can talk openly about what helps, what doesn’t and adapt our work as we go. I see therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to find what supports you best.
